Week 2: Read to a kid!

This week's blogging topic is "Read to a kid in your division and blog about it". What a great way to share the love, simply by sharing the love of reading with our young minds. Take a minute this week to share a book with one of the many children going about the building this week, then talk about your experience here.

And don't forget to stop by Human Resources to enter your name into the raffle for the white elephant gift!

  1. So, I noticed this kid looking at one of his books that he was going to check out. I saw that the truck in his book was covered by bubbles. So, I asked him, what was all over the truck. One thing lead to another and I found myself reading the book to him. Next thing I knew, I had a crowd! His two siblings had overheard me reading the book to him and wanted in on the action! We found out that Dizzy Izzy (the ice cream truck) had gone through a car wash and had gotten bubbles all over her. It was a great book for teaching phonological awareness! The irony is, I didn't even know that reading to a kid was this week's activity at the time!

  2. Earlier this week, a mother visited our division with her toddler. While mom was logging in on her computer, the little girl ran down the aisle past our security guard. He mildly told her to slow down and sent her back to her mother. We have a children's book display in the division so I gathered several books to share with her. Coincidentally, I found the perfect picture book: Police Cloud by Christoph Niemann, a book about firefighters, police and clouds! This way the toddler could read while mom was working on the computer.
